In many Latin American countries, April 30th, “Día del Niño” is set apart as a special holiday to honor children. Beginning in 1996, Pat Mora, the award-winning poet and children’s author, introduced Children’s Day into the U.S. and incorporated the concept of Book Day to emphasize the importance of literacy and the love of reading in children.
