Congratulations Minersville Public Library for earning the 2024 Quality Library Award! This prestigious award recognizes Utah libraries that go above and beyond.
“Minersville Public Library is the heart of our town, a welcoming hub for everyone from toddlers to seniors,” says Library Director Shannon Terry. “It’s a place where kids discover the magic of reading, teens find resources and support, and adults connect with the community. More than just books, it’s a safe and comfortable space where everyone feels welcomed and valued.”
Shannon has found innovative ways to engage the small town. Her junior library board is composed of six children, ages eleven to thirteen, who help plan programs. “They are the future of our library,” says Shannon. She’s most proud of her new senior program, Movie Mondays. “We select films and series based on books, and it’s been a huge hit.” she says. “Our seniors love getting together for treats, a great movie, and a lively discussion afterwards.”

Not only does Shannon work as the library director, she is the only librarian on staff. She does everything from cataloging and cleaning the restrooms to writing grants and developing engaging programs.
“Director Shannon Terry’s ‘small but mighty’ approach for Minersville Public Library has brought innovative ideas and programming to her community,” explains Utah State Library’s Youth Services Coordinator Karen Liu. “Shannon has developed programs where patrons have free access to paddleboards, kayaks, mountain bikes, and helmets. As well as programs, such as an indoors hydroponics garden where her young patrons can participate in hands-on STEM activities. Shannon has created a cool, fun, and welcoming space, where everyone wants to hang out.”
Earning Utah State Library’s Quality Library award means a lot to Shannon. “I work very hard and truly care for my community,” she says. “Winning this award shows that hard work, dedication, and innovation can be recognized and rewarded, even in challenging circumstances.”
